BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Sierra Gleim has signed with the Lees-McRae cycling program, announced director and head coach of cycling Tim Hall Thursday.
"We are thrilled Sierra has chosen to become a Bobcat to sharpen her gravity skills here in Banner Elk. There are very few young women like her who already have several years of gravity experience," praised Hall. "We believe Sierra will only get stronger and faster as she matures, and she will thrive on the opportunity to train on our home courses on a daily basis."
The Lebanon, Pa., product will focus on mountain bike racing with an emphasis on the gravity team. She comes to LMC with three years of experience in downhill and dual slalom.
"We usually have to develop female gravity racers after they arrive, which means their impact on the elite team is limited," said Hall. "However, Sierra has the potential to impact our elite national's team all four years at Lees-McRae."
Gleim shined in 2015 after finishing first overall in the MAC DS Series and in the Cat 1 of the Gravity East DH Series. She claimed fourth in the Junior Windham World Cup DH.
In 2014, she finished first overall in Cat 1 of the Gravity East DH and fourth in the Junior Windham World Cup DH.
"Sierra is a vibrant and energetic young woman, and we look forward to her joining the team next fall," said Hall.
Gleim earned first overall in Cat 2/3 of the Gravity East DH Series in 2013.
She is the daughter of Jason and Jennifer Gleim and sister to Cheyenne (12).
Gleim intends on majoring in biology with a focus on pre-med.
