BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Lees-McRae freshman Erin Bingham capped off a stellar first year at LMC by winning the 100-meter hurdles while freshman teammate Kayla Powell finished second in the women’s shot put on day two of the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C.
Bingham (Jefferson, N.C.) captured the individual title in the 100-meter hurdles when she churned out a time of 14.81 seconds. Bobcat junior Meagan Thornton missed out on a medal by .01 seconds when she finished fourth with a time of 15.16 seconds.
Thornton bounced back and claimed second in the 400-meter hurdles with at time of 1:03.97. Bingham earned LMC a point while finishing sixth at 1:08.41.
Powell (Moyock, N.C.) produced a solid day after finishing second in the shot put (11.90 meters) and fourth in the discus (35.91 meters).
Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) earned a top-15 finish while swiping 13th in the discus with a distance of 29.38. The junior finished eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 29.96 meters.
LMC finished fifth with 68 points while Mount Olive claimed the team title with a 129-point effort. Limestone (114), King (105) and Barton (90) rounded out the top four. North Greenville (47), Converse (42) and Belmont Abbey (18) completed the women’s field.
