INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lees-McRae College’s Vice President of Athletics and Club Sports Craig McPhail has been selected to speak at the NCAA’s Career in Sports Forum this week in Indianapolis, Indiana. The forum brings together 200 student-athletes to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the primary focus on collegiate athletics.

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College Head Swimming Coach Sean Weddell announced Thursday the signing of three new student-athletes for the inaugural season of LMC women’s swimming. The newest recruits are: Elli Seabrook, Jenn Paul and Braedy Laymon. These three signees join Carlee Hoagland and Kayla Fleming as swimmers signed on to compete for the Bobcats in their first ever season later this year.
BELMONT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College President Barry Buxton and Vice President of Athletics and Club Sports Craig McPhail were both recognized by the Conference Carolinas Monday evening at the league’s Legends of the Game banquet. Buxton was bestowed the Heritage Award, while McPhail received the Milestone Award.
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men’s lacrosse program received a pair of awards from the Conference Carolinas office on Friday afternoon. First, the program was the recipient of Messick award, which is given to the team exhibited the highest degree of sportsmanship by its players, coaches and fans during the regular season. On top of this honor, junior attackman Alec Molander was named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year.
NEW ORLEANS – Lees-McRae College track and field student-athletes Bayle Wood (Javelin Throw) and Kaitlyn Gearing (Heptathlon) were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) All-Region team the organization announced Monday.

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The 2017-18 Lees-McRae College men’s basketball season will be one that will be remembered for a long time to come in Banner Elk and the surrounding area. LMC put together its best season ever winning a program record 23 games on its way to a Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs had six student-athletes receive All-Conference Carolinas recognition by the league office on Friday afternoon. Bayle Wood was LMC’s lone First Team honoree in the javelin throw. On the men’s team, Luke Rochester (pole vault) led the way with a Second Team honor, while Josh Cady (pole vault), Cooper Abernathy (javelin throw), Austin Thompson (5000m run) and Jason Saintizaire (high jump) were all placed on the Third Team.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lees-McRae College Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Mark Polsgrove was honored Tuesday by being named to 2017-18 Under Armour 30-under-30 list by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The list is geared towards recognizing a group of up-and-coming young coaches in men’s college basketball.
BURLINGTON, N.C. – Lees-McRae College softball player Sarah Tucker was named to the Conference Carolinas All-Tournament team after her performance in Burlington over the weekend. Tucker is the 12th Bobcat to ever be named to the event’s all-tournament team.
CENTRAL, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs closed out the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University. The men’s team finished fifth, while the women’s team finished eighth on the meet in the overall team standings.
TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Lees-McRae College women’s lacrosse player Tiffany Laster was recognized by the league coaches Saturday evening at the league banquet by being named to the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team. Laster is the first all-conference player for the Bobcats since 2016 when teammate Peyton LeCompte was named to the league’s first team.
BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team’s 2018 season came to an end Saturday afternoon in Burlington, North Carolina as the Bobcats fell to Mount Olive by a score of 4-3 on day two of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The loss closes LMC’s record on the season at 17-26, which is the team’s most wins in a season since 2011.
TIGERVILLE, S.C. – For the second straight season, Lees-McRae College men’s lacrosse player Alec Molander earned a spot on the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team at the league’s banquet Friday evening. Molander, who also landed a spot on the league’s second team in 2017, led the Bobcats in several offensive categories this season.
BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team was involved in a pair of tightly contested contests Friday on the first day of the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament at Burlington’s Springwood Park. LMC dropped its first game of the day to fourth-seeded King by a score of 4-3 before mounting a late rally to knock off second-seeded Erskine in an elimination game, 4-2. The results Friday push LMC’s record to 17-25 on the season.
BURLINGTON, N.C. – Lees-McRae College softball players Caitlyn Ray, Kara Cunningham and Noel Cassidy landed spots on the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team the league office announced Thursday night at the league banquet. The three all-league performers are the most for the program since 2011.
BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team will compete in the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament this weekend in Burlington, North Carolina. The tournament, which is under a double elimination format, will be played April 27-29 from Springwood Park in Burlington. LMC’s opening game of the tournament is Friday morning against rival King University. First pitch for that game is set for 11 a.m.

LMC blanked the Tornado in game one, 4-0, but the latter rebounded to take game two, 6-1. Additionally, with the victory in game one by Kara Cunningham, she is now the program’s new record holder for wins by a pitcher in a single season with 16 victories.
DURHAM, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women’s track and field program competed in one final outdoor meet prior to the Conference Carolinas Championships next weekend. The meet the Bobcats competed in was the Duke Invitational, and the team logged a pair of top 20 finishes over the weekend.
