Relive Lees-McRae’s Championship Tradition: 2010 and 2011 seasons

BANNER ELK, N.C. – In the third installment of the "Relive Lees-McRae's Championship Tradition" series, giving you an inside look at some of the teams who have added to the Bobcat's storied history of excellence, we are taking a look back at both the 2010 and 2011 seasons where the women's volleyball, women's soccer, men's outdoor track & field, men's soccer and men's tennis teams all clinched Conference Carolinas Tournament Championships, while the cycling team won the Division I Cyclocross National Championship.
 
Women's Volleyball:
  • 2011:
    • Record: 27-9 overall (18-0 conference) – 14-0 in Banner Elk
    • The Bobcats defeated Belmont Abbey, King and Queens (N.C.) en route to claiming its 13th conference title in 14 seasons. To read the full recap, click HERE.
    • Lees-McRae lost to Wingate in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship
 
  • 2010:
    • Record 25-8 overall (18-0 conference) – 14-2 in Banner Elk
    • Lees-McRae defeated Mount Olive, Queens (N.C.) and Erskine to clinch back-to-back Conference Carolinas Championships. To read the full recap, click HERE.
    • The Bobcats lost to Wingate in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships
 
Women's Soccer:
  • 2011:
    • Record: 13-5-3 overall (11-1-0 conference)
    • Lees-McRae held a 13-game unbeaten streak that lasted six weeks during the regular season.
    • The Bobcats defeated Erskine, Limestone (on PK's) and Belmont Abbey (on PK's) to send the Bobcats to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. To read the full recap, click HERE.
    • Lees-McRae lost to Columbus State in the first round of the NCAA Division II Championships
 
Men's Soccer:
  • 2010:
    • Record: 13-5-3 overall (7-1-1 conference)
    • The Bobcats held a seven-game unbeaten streak for four weeks during the regular season.
    • Lees-McRae defeated Queens (N.C.), Pfeiffer (on penalty kicks [PK's]) and Coker to claim its third Conference Carolina Tournament title in four seasons. To read the full recap, click HERE.
    • The Bobcats lost to Clayton State after their rally fell short in the second round of the NCAA Division II Championships
 
 
Men's Tennis:
  • 2010:
    • Record: 16-6 overall (9-0 conference)
    • Lees-McRae won 15 of final 16 matches, including a 5-0 victory over Anderson (S.C.) in the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships.
    • The Bobcats defeated Pfeiffer, Limestone and Anderson (S.C.) en route to winning its first conference title since the 2003 season. To read the full recap, click HERE.
    • Lees-McRae lost to Armstrong Atlantic in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  


Men's Outdoor Track & Field:
  • 2010
    • The Bobcats captured the 2010 Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship for the second-consecutive season, after claiming the conference's inaugural title in 2009.
    • Lees-McRae student-athletes Chris Glenn and Joe Daher earned Track and Field Athletes of the Year respectively to lead the Bobcats to a championship title.


Cycling:
  • 2010
    • The Bobcats captured its tenth national title in program history by winning the 2010 Collegiate Cyclocross National Championship in Bend, Ore.
    • This was the fourth Division I Championship in Cyclocross for the Bobcats in five years
    • Carla Swart (Buford, Ga.), Erica Zaveta (Erwinna, Pa.) finished third and fourth respectively on the women's side, while Bradford Perley (Kennebunkport, Maine) and Eric Thompson (Shoreview, Minn.) placed third and fifth on the men's side.
