Induction of Don Baker

Banner Elk, NC--Lees-McRae College inducted former coach Don Baker into the Fred I. Dickerson Athletics Hall of Fame during Homecoming festivities Saturday, October 6.

Baker graduated from LMC in 1957. At various times between 1960 and 1995, Baker served the college as tennis coach, Director of Public Relations, Director of Alumni Affairs, Admissions Recruiter, Dean of Men, School Photographer, Yearbook Advisor, Instructor of Art Appreciation and Athletic Director.

Baker coached the LMC tennis men's and women's teams to three conference championships, three regional championships and to five appearances at the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament. His honors include Coach of the Year in the Western Carolinas Junior College Conference 10 times and the National Junior College Athletic Association Football Hall of Fame Pioneer Award 2000 among many others.

Baker was roasted at the ceremony by fellow LMC classmate, Dick Weaver. Former LMC coach Lewis Hall and others at the ceremony were given the opportunity to express their feelings and tell stories about Baker. Baker was inducted into the Hall of Fame by LMC President Earl Robinson.
