Cross Country finishes 2nd and 7th respectively at Eye Opener Invitational; Men's Soccer loses to #4 Lander, open CVAC schedule with 3-2 win over Anderson; Women's Soccer splits at Sailfish Classic, Women's Volleyball goes 3-0 on Florida road trip

Cross Country:

Last Week: Raced at Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, SC
This Week: Off, next race September 22nd at Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational


Both the women and men raced at the Eye Opener Invitational and had successful weekends with the women finishing 2nd out of 24 teams and the men 7th out of 22 teams. Freshman Chris Holtsein (Middleburg, FL) led the men with a personal best 28:05 on the five mile course, finishing 18th out of 172 runners. The women were led by a pair of freshman as Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC) finished 8th with a personal best time 19:55 for the 5K (3.1 mile) course while Carla Swart (Buford, GA) ran 20:35 and finished 18th out of 181 runners. Classmate Ashley May (Chilhowie, VA) improved on her 5k time with a mark of 20:43, a 47 second improvement from last week's race. Senior Casey Willis (Vale, NC) had another big improvement as she went from 22:20 last week to 21:35 this week.
Both teams will use the weekend off to train and prepare for the Lenoir Rhyne Invitational September 22nd. For their strong start over the past two weekends the Lady Bobcats have been ranked as the number one team in the southeast region by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.


Men's Soccer: (4-1-1, 1-0 CVAC)

Last Week: 9/7: L 1-5 vs. #4 Lander, 9/9: W 3-2 (2OT) vs. Anderson
This Week: 9/13: Home vs. Pfeiffer, 9/16: at Queen's

The Bobcats dropped a showdown of ranked opponents as the 13th ranked Bobcats took on 4th ranked Lander, the visitors came out on top 5-1. Regrouping two days later the Bobcats opened their Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference schedule hosting Anderson and came away with a 3-2 (2OT) victory. The win improved the Bobcats record to 4-1-1 (1-0 CVAC). The NSCAA still deemed the Bobcats a top 25 team; however their ranking slipped ten places from thirteen to twenty-three.

Women's Soccer: (4-2, 1-0 CVAC)

Last Week: 9/8: L 0-6 at Palm Beach Atlantic, 9/9: W 1-0 at Warner Southern
This Week: 9/13: Home vs. Pfeiffer, 9/16: at Queen's

The Lady Bobcats dropped a 6-0 contest to Palm Beach Atlantic University at the Sailfish Classic, regrouping the next day to defeat Warner Southern 1-0 for the team's first road win of the season. Christine Calvert (Dallas, TX) scored for the Lady Bobcats against Warner Southern while Anita Hekman earned her second shutout of the season. The win over Warner Southern marked the Lady Bobcats fourth win of the season, besting last season's win total in just their sixth game of the year.

Volleyball: (9-4, 1-0 CVAC)

Last Week: 9/6: W 3-0 at Pfeiffer, 9/8 -9/9: at Palm Beach Atlantic Tournament, W 3-1 vs. PBA, W 3-1 vs. Flagler, W 3-2 vs. Nova Southeastern
This Week: 9/13: Home vs. ETSU, 9/15: at Limestone, 9/16: at Anderson

After opening their Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-0 road win at Pfeiffer, the Lady Bobcats continued their winning ways at the Palm Beach Atlantic Tournament with wins over host Palm Beach Atlantic, Flagler College, and Nova Southeastern University. The Lady Bobcats improved their record to 9-4 (1-0 CVAC) and will host Division I East Tennessee State University Wednesday evening at Williams Gymnasium.
