Basketball Bobcats Kick Off Seasons

The Lees-McRae College Bobcats basketball teams will get the 2006-07 seasons underway Wednesday when they both travel to Lincoln Memorial University to battle the Railsplitters. The games will mark the beginning of Head Coaches Scott Polsgrove and Sebastian Wild tenure's at the helm of the respective programs.

Polsgrove (pictured below left), a two time TVAC Coach of the Year at King College, and the Bobcats will start 2006-07 relying on the senior leadership of Aaron Dugger and Henry Williams. The pair led the Bobcats in scoring last season, with Dugger being tabbed Honorable Mention All CVAC. Four transfers should also help the Bobcats on and off the court with leadership and experience. Mario McClunie and Blake Carr played together for two seasons at Hiwassee Community College while Bruno Daliu comes to Lees-McRae from Tusculum College and Pete Dunbar from College of DuPage.

Wild (pictured below right) and the Lady Bobcats will start off the season with the Lady Railsplitters and look to make it two in a row after beating them 59-55 at home in last season's opener. A quartet of seniors will be looked to for leadership on and off the floor for the youthful squad. Captain Taukia Hughes, Dianca Jones, Amber Benfield and Amanda Huffaker will provide the glue that holds the Lady Bobcats together. Benfield and Huffaker are both returning from off season ACL surgery while Jones returns to the court after suffering a season ending Achilles injury last year in mid season. Junior Stephanie Mullinax, an All CVAC Second Team member a year ago and former Freshman of the Year, will lead the Lady Bobcats in the paint and provide help in both scoring and rebounding.

The Lady Bobcats will tip off at 6:00pm with the Lady Railsplitters while the men will get on the court for an 8:00pm start. Each team will return to the friendly confines of Williams Gymnasium for the second games when they host Anderson University next Tuesday to open up their Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference schedules.
