Athletic Staff Uses Volunteer Work Day to Prepare for 2010-2011
BANNER ELK, N.C. -- As over 150 volunteers gathered at Lees-McRae's MacDonald Dining Hall to take part in Lees-McRae's Volunteer Work Day to prepare residence hall rooms, classrooms and offices for the 2010-2011 academic year, the Bobcat athletic staff gathered to prepare Williams Gymnasium and the surrounding athletic facilities.
The staff picked up trash, removed unused equipment from the practice fields, cleaned the pole vault, high jump, discus and shot put areas of the Arthur, Laurentsen and Sanders Track and Field Complex and painted the front office to Williams Gymnasium.
"What a great opportunity for us to further enhance our facilities as we prepare for the 2010-2011 year,"Athletic Director Craig McPhail said. "I am proud of our staff and college for being such community servants to such a great cause. Our young people will see immediately this is a special place."
Lees-McRae President, Barry Buxton, called the Volunteer Day an overall success.
"We owe the success of the day to our dedicated volunteers and sponsors," said President Buxton. "It was certainly a group effort. Several volunteers asked when we would do Volunteer Day again! We really appreciate all of the hard work."
The school and staff prepare for New Student Move-in Day on August 14th, while fall sports teams will have their teams move in on August 12th and start their respective preseasons on August 13th.
