HIGH POINT, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae athletic department is proud to announce that 140 student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Fall Presidential Honor Roll, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Conference Carolinas continues to emphasize “Academics and Athletics Working Together” as each school strives to grow their Presidential Honor Roll each and every year. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have earned a 3.20 grade-point average (up from 3.00 in previous years) on a 4.00 scale for the semester and includes freshman and transfer student athletes (that have participated in either a conference or non-conference sponsored sport).
The Lees-McRae cycling team led all Bobcat squads with 24 representatives while five other sports had at least 10 student-athletes on the list.
The Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll is awarded twice a year covering each of the fall and spring academic semesters and is based on meeting the criteria at the end of the previous semester.
“This is a great achievement for not only the student-athletes, but for Lees-McRae as a college” said Athletic Director and vice president of athletics and club sports Craig McPhail. “It takes a team effort from the student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff to achieve this goal, and I believe all parties did so flawlessly.”
Women’s soccer impressed with 18 members while men’s lacrosse, men’s soccer and men’s volleyball had 11 apiece.
Softball had 10 representatives while the men’s and women’s track & field teams had nine each.
Women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis and women’s cross country collected five members apiece while women’s tennis and men’s basketball had four. Women’s basketball amassed three members.
Overall, LMC had 140 of its 280 (50%) student-athletes (as of Fall 2013) recognized on the prestigious list. A total of 1623 student-athletes made the list from the 10 Conference Carolina schools while Limestone College paced the way with 295 student-athlete honorees.
