This past weekend the Lees-McRae cycling team headed down to Charlotte for a full weekend of racing. The first race of the weekend was the short track. This race saw total domination by the Bobcats as they swept first place in all races. Chris Perham won the men's C race, Wentworth Knipe won the men's B race and Brent Bookwalter won the men's A race. Katie Getchell won the women's B race and Clara Beard won the women's A race. In the men's B race Preston Anderson finished second, Chris Consorto finished third and Gonzalo Escobar finished fourth for clean seep of the top places. In the women's A race Monique Heim finished second and Kristi Henne finished third for another clean sweep. In the men's A race Scott Stewart finished second, Robert Jameson finished third, Will Hoffarth finished fourth, Danny Marquardt finished sixth, Wes Shirey finished seventh, Kevin Holldber finished eighth and Carson Worts finished tenth to claim nine of the top ten places.
The afternoon brought the gravity events. Once again in the A races Lees-McRae came away with wins. David Flynn won the men's race with Brent in third and Aaron Bradford in fourth. In the women's race Monique finished first, Kristi finished second and Clara fourth. The downhill race was fast and furious with David finishing second in the men's a race, Monique finishing second in the women's A race and Wentworth finishing second in the men's B.
Sunday brought very humid conditions as they cross country race began. the men's a race was lead by freshman Will Hoffarth until the last lap when Brent attacked, along with Thomas Tavers from Clemson, and raced to a second place finish. Will held onto third, with Scott coming in fourth, Robert in fifth, Danny in seventh, Carson in eight and Kevin in ninth. Once again the Bobcats took seven on the top nine positions. In the women's A race Monique rode away from the field for a convincing first place finish with Clara and Kristi sprinting together for second and third. In the women's B race Katie and Olivia raced together the whole race and came across the line with the same time. In the men's B race Preston and Chris rode hard but were caught just before the finish line to score a second and third place finish. Jesse finished eighth and Gonzalo finished ninth. In the men's C race once again Chris rode away from the filed for a very convincing win. The weekend once again saw complete domination by the Bobcats against their conference foes. With two weeks now until conference finals the season has certainly been a very good one with three wins in three races weekends.
