Bobcat Cyclists Once Again Dominate

Dahlonega, GA--The Bobcats traveled to Dahlonega, Georgia over the weeekend to compete in their second race this season. The riders dominated the field again, claiming eight first place finishes and an additional eight second place spots for the second straight week in a Southeast Collegiate Cycling Conference event.

Competing in a field of 12 teams from the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Georgia, Clemson University, Georgia Tech University, Cumberland University, Warren Wilson College, Brevard College, Emory University, North Georgia College and Life College the Bobcats rode to the lead in almost every event with a strong showing from the freshman cyclists.

In Men's A competition LMC freshman Mike Anderson competed fiercely, snatching three first place finishes over the weekend, winning the Time Trial, Cross Country and Track races. Junior teammate Will Hoffarth took second in the Time Trial and third in the Short Track, while another junior, Scott Stewart, captured a second place finish in the Short Track and a third in the Cross Country race.

A Bobcat freshman dominated in Men's B competition as well. Freshman Brad Perley, who rode home with two first place positions last weekend, gained a triple crown at this conference event pedaling to victory in the Time Trial, Cross Country and Short Track races. Although mechanical problems slowed Chris Pickerell down in the Time Trial, he pushed forward grabbing a second in the Short Track and third in the Cross Country races. Not to be left out fellow cyclist Gonzalo Escobar took a seond and two thirds home for the Bobcats while Ben Corbalis had a top three finish himself, racing to second place in the Time Trial.

Michael Rozelle, another LMC freshman, won both the Cross Country and Short Track races and finished second in the time trial in Men's C races. Teammate Matthew Owen rocked it to fifth in the Short Track.

In the Women's Races junior Ally Stacher was the top Bobcat finisher with a second in the Short Track, third in Cross Country and fourth in the Time Trial. Sophomore Jo Markham also rode well taking sixth in the Short Track, seventh in Cross Country and thirteenth in the Time Trial. Sophomore Chloe Jackson pedaled to eighth in the Time Trial and stayed in the top ten in Short Track by finishing in the ten spot.

Overall the Bobcats finished with eight first place, eight second place, six third place, three fourth place and two fifth place finishes for the weekend with other members riding home with additional top fifteen finishes.

The next event for the cycling team is a trip to College Track Nationals in San Diego, CA September 14-16. The Bobcats have their sights set on a top three finish, hoping to better last year's fourth place overall finish, and continue their quest to retain the number one ranking in the country in Division I cycling.
