Cyclists Race Well in Cyclo Cross Grand Prix

Hendersonville, NC--The Less-McRae cycling team is in full swing in their third season of the fall semester. After placing fifth in the nation at Track Nationals and second at Mountain Bike Nationals the team is now preparing to defend their National Championship in Cyclo Cross.

The Bobcats, competing in one of the largest cyclo cross races in the southeast this past weekend in Hendersonville, NC, showed why they are the reigning National Champions. The team rode to five first place finishes, three second and three third places finishes during the event.

In the cx 4 race Austin Simmons (Greenville, NC) won both Saturday and Sunday. Chris Pickerel (Harrisburg, VA) helped out Simmons and finished a strong third on Sunday. In the women's cx 3/4 race Jo Markham Colliersville, TN) finished second Saturday and fourth Sunday. In the men's cx 2/3 race Eric Thompson (Shoreview, MN) won both Saturday and Sunday with his teammates Brad Perley and Mike Anderson swapping out second and third both days.

In the Elite/Pro race senior Kacey Manderfield (Davisburg, MI) finished fourth on Saturday and then came back to win the race on Sunday. In the Men's Elite/Pro race sophomore Scott Jackson (Chatham, NJ) finished 20 on Saturday and seniorAaron Bradford (Auburn, WA) finished 20 on Sunday.

The team will continue to race each weekend until they head to Kansas City, KS for Cyclo Cross Nationals on December 12.
