ANGEL FIRE, N.M. --- The Lees-McRae College cycling team remains third in the team omnium standings after the second day of the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships, placing four riders in the top 10 on Saturday.
Fort Lewis College remains atop the team omnium standings with 515 points, as the University of Colorado at Boulder and Lees-McRae occupy the second and third spots with 470 and 370 markers, respectively. California Polytechnic-San Luis Obsipo is fourth with 328 points, while the University of Wyoming is fifth with 261 markers.
Lees-McRae's men's duo of Kerry Werner (Birdsboro, Pa.) and Bradford Perley (Kennebunkport, Maine) kicked off the day with third- and fifth-place performances, respectively, in the short track race to take over the top two spots in the Division I individual omnium standings heading into Sunday's dual slalom competition. Davis Bentley (Mill Valley, Calif.) finished 18th, as Ezra Mullen (Nottingham, N.H.) and Trevor MacLean (Westport, Conn.) placed 20th and 23rd, respectively.
Erica Zaveta (Erwinna, Pa.) finished ninth in the women's short track race with a time of 32:01 to climb to fifth in the individual omnium rankings, as Cinthia Lehner (Greer, S.C.) and Megan Baab placed 25th and 31st, respectively.
Eric Bercume (Barre, Mass.) turned in the Bobcats' top performance in the men's downhill, finishing 15th with a time of 8:36.44, as Werner and Perley placed 20th and 27th, respectively, with times of 9:02.72 and 9:36.68. Zaveta followed with a seventh-place performance in the women's downhill, turning in a time of 14:14.24.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Sunday when the Bobcats take the course in the dual slalom competition on the final day of the Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals in Angel Fire, N.M.
