ANGEL FIRE, N.M. --- Kerry Werner (Birdsboro, Pa.) and Bradford Perley (Kennebunkport, Maine) grabbed the top two spots in the men's Division I individual omnium standings to lead the Lees-McRae College cycling team to a fourth-place performance at the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships on Sunday afternoon.
Fort Lewis College took the team omnium title with 644 points, narrowly beating out the University of Colorado at Boulder's total of 636 markers. Lindsey Wilson College finished third with 449 points, edging Lees-McRae's total of 442 markers, as California Polytechnic - San Luis Obispo placed fifth with 439 points.
Werner captured the individual omnium title with 291 points, beating out Perley's second-place total of 254 markers, as Fort Lewis' Dylan Stucki finished third with 222 points. Erica Zaveta (Erwinna, Pa.) finished fifth in the women's Division I individual omnium standings with 303 points.
Eric Bercume (Barre, Mass.) turned in the top performance for the Bobcats in the dual slalom race, finishing 18th. Werner and Perley finished 35th and 44th, respectively, to wrap up the top two spots on the overall podium. Zaveta finished 13th in the women's dual slalom to clinch the fifth spot on the women's podium.
Lees-McRae returns to the course on Saturday, November 5 when the Bobcats travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take part in Florida State University's Cyclocross event to kick off their cyclocross season.
