GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- Brent Bookwalter, a 2002 Rockford High School graduate, will make his third appearance at the Tour de France, which starts Saturday and concludes July 21.

Bookwalter was one of nine riders from the BMC Racing Team selected to start the 100th edition of the race. Bookwalter is also one of six from the team who competed in 2011 when Cadel Evans won the race.

Late Sunday, Bookwalter tweeted: "Excited, proud and honored to be selected to ride the 100th #TDF w/ @BMCProTeam! new perspective and appreciation after missing last years."

Bookwalter, 29, competed in the Tour de France in 2010 and 2011, but did not make the team last year.

This season has been productive for Bookwalter. He was a stage winner twice in the Tour of Qatar, and, in May, took two silver medals in the U.S. Nationals in Chattanooga for the road race and time trial.

Bookwalter turned pro in 2008. He currently lives in Asheville, N.C.

Here is the BMC Racing Team roster for the Tour de France:

Brent Bookwalter (USA), Marcus Burghardt (GER), Cadel Evans (AUS), Philippe Gilbert (BEL), Amaël Moinard (FRA), Steve Morabito (SUI), Manuel Quinziato (ITA), Michael Schär (SUI), Tejay van Garderen (USA).

Bradley Wiggins of Great Britain won last year's race.
