BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cycling team announced the signing of Dagny Palmer (Phoenixville, Pa.) to join the Bobcats for the 2017-18 season. Palmer joins Matthew Armstrong, Andrew Sparks and Svetlana Mack as new recruits for the Bobcats this fall.
"Dagny brings a lot of enthusiasm and experience to our team," said LMC Head Coach Tim Hall. "She provides us with some depth off-road in both CX and MTB. She is a product of the NICA league in Pennsylvania where she produced consistent results, and her overall performance in the regional series' were outstanding as well. We believe Dagny will continue to improve on the bike and be a great ambassador for our program for the next four years."
Palmer comes to Banner Elk with several accomplishments already during her high school career. The Phoenixsville, Pa. native notched a pair of top three finishes in Pennsylvania Cyclocross (PACX), while also finishing in among the top three in the NICA Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League and Mid-Atlantic Superseries. In addition to her exploits as a cyclist, Palmer, who will graduate from Owen J. Roberts High School this spring, also competed in track and gymnastics during her high school career.
"I looked long and hard at a several schools where I had been accepted, but Lees-McRae kept rising to the top as I weighed pros and cons," said Palmer. "The campus culture seems like an ideal fit for me and I am anticipating learning a lot, on the bike and off. In the end it I felt like the Lees-McRae people really cared about my decision."
Palmer intends to major in Outdoor Recreation Management with a minor in cycling studies when she enrolls at Lees-McRae this fall.
