BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cycling team announced the signing of Austin Brown (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) to join the Bobcats for the 2017-18 season. Brown is the sixth signee for LMC Head Coach Tim Hall this spring. Joining Brown are Jacob Tarbay, Dagny Palmer, Matthew Armstrong, Andrew Sparks and Svetlana Mack as new Bobcats in the fall of 2017.
"Austin is a promising road racer and has potential to become a solid mountain biker as well," said Hall. "Coach Noto has been working with him for nearly two years and he has made tremendous progress during that time. He has a knack for doing well in criteriums, and has several victories under his belt. We love the fact he is willing to tackle new aspects to cycling, and do so with a good attitude. Also, Austin will fit right in with our campus community in Banner Elk with his enthusiasm for the outdoors."
In addition to cycling, Brown is also a student council member at Royal Palm Beach Community High School, Senior DECA Vice President of Finance and he volunteers his time at Jack the Bikerman for underprivileged children.
"I chose Lees-McRae because of the accessibility to the outdoors, the established cycling program, and their choice of undergraduate programs," said Brown.
Brown is a proposed business administration/marketing major with a minor in cycling studies when he joins the Bobcat family this fall.
