The Lees-McRae College Bobcats basketball team hosted Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference rival Anderson University Tuesday night, beating the Trojans 63-42 to earn Head Coach Scott Polsgrove his first win on the Bobcats sidelines. The Bobcats even their record at 1-1 (1-0 CVAC) while Anderson falls to 0-3 (0-1 CVAC).
The Bobcats got out of the gates quickly in their home opener, leading by ten, 12-2, just over four minutes into the game. The Trojans would battle back through the first but could not get closer than six, until finishing the final three minutes of the half with a 10-2 run to close the gap to two, 25-23, as the teams broke for halftime.
After a lackluster finish to the first, the Bobcats came out hungry in the second, putting together an 18-0 run to extend their lead to 20. The Bobcats would stretch their lead to 28 before the Trojans would come to life with back to back buckets by Josh Stanley, one of the three point variety, however the damage was done and the Bobcats cruised to the 21 point victory.
Henry Williams led the Bobcats assault with 18 points, going two for two from behind the three point arc and snagging four rebounds. DJ Menifee had 12 points and five assists for the Bobcats while Aaron Dugger chipped in with 11 and three respectively. Mike Fox (pictured left), made his presence known all over the court with five points, four rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.
Levi Ashworth led the Trojans with 11 points, seven coming from the charity stripe. Stanley put in eight for the visitors while John LeSueur and JR Howell dropped in five a piece.
The Bobcats will head to CVAC foe Pfeiffer for a tournament this
weekend, playing UNC-Pembroke November 24th at 5:00pm.
