Reggie Williams scored 31 points to lead Virginia Military Institute to a 135-75 victory over Lees-McRae College Wednesday night at Cameron Hall on the campus of VMI in non-conference basketball action. The Keydets improve to 4-7 while Lees-McRae falls a game below .500 at 3-4.
The Division I opposition from VMI never trailed in the contest. Aaron Dugger's three-pointer tied the game at eight three minutes in the first half, but the Keydets responded with a 27-6 run over the next seven minutes to break the game open.
VMI placed five in double figures scoring. Joining Williams were Travis Holmes, who scored a career-high 28 points on 10-16 shooting including 6-11 from long range, Matt Murrer who matched his career-high of 25 points, Chavis Holmes, who also canned six treys in a 21-point effort, and Willie Bell who finished with a career-high 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Bobcats were led by Dugger who scored 25 points on nine of 16 shooting including five field goals from beyond the three point arc. Henry Williams had 17 points while guard D.J. Menifee added 10 points.
Williams also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds and reached the 30-point plateau in a game for the sixth time this season. The Keydets, who entered the game leading Division I in scoring offense, hit triple digits for the fifth time this season.
The Bobcats will return to action after the Christmas break, again facing a Division I opponent, when they travel to High Point University January 2nd, 2007.
