After playing two consecutive Division I opponents, the
Lees-McRae Bobcats resumed their Carolinas-Virginia Athletic
Conference schedule with a road contest at Belmont Abbey College.
The host Crusaders would emerge with the 76-64 win to improve to
3-7, (2-3 CVAC), while the Bobcats fall to 3-6 overall and even
their CVAC record, 2-2.
The two teams exchanged the lead several times through the first
ten minutes, which included four ties, with neither team able to
extend its lead past four points. The Crusaders took the lead for
good with 8:21 to play and down 16-14, outscoring the visitors
21-10 over the remainder of the half to head into the halftime with
a 34-26 lead.
Picking right back up where it left off from the first half, the
Crusaders opened the final stanza on an 8-3 run in the first 3:27
to build a 13-point advantage, 42-29, with 16:33 left. The Bobcats
would claw their way back with a 13-2 run to pull within two,
44-42, and just over twelve minutes remaining, before an 18-6 Abbey
run re-established the home team's double digit lead. The Bobcats
would continue to battle, but were unable to get any closer than
ten, as the Crusaders would go 8-8 from the charity stripe over the
last 1:10 to seal the win.
Aaron Dugger, (pictured top left), led the Bobcats with 16
points while Henry Williams added 14. Mike Fox also registered
points in double digits, contributing ten.
The Bobcats resume conference action when they travel to CVAC
rival Limestone Thursday for a 7:30pm tip off.
