The Lees-McRae College Bobcats hosted Queen's University Royals in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Thursday evening, falling 88-77. The loss drops the Bobcats record to 3-10, (2-6 CVAC).
After spotting the home side an early 6-0 lead, the Royals came alive, tying the score at twelve, with just over twelve minutes remaining. The Bobcats would lead once more, 19-18, before the Royals took over for good. In the first half, the visitors had increased their lead to eleven, settling on a ten point cushion, as the teams went into half time with Queen's leading 44-34.
The second half began all Queens until the Bobcats began clawing back into the picture. Cutting a fourteen point deficit in half was the best the home side could put together, with the damage done, and the disciplined Royals using the ten point cushion from half time to cruise to the eleven point victory.
The Royals move into third in the CVAC with the victory, possessing a 6-2 conference record, (10-5 overall). John Thompson had a game high 19 points to lead the Royals while Chris Jones and Darnell Evans each scored 15. Justin Qualley and Andre Lockhart added 11 and 10 points respectively.
DJ Menifee, (pictured top left), led the Bobcats in scoring for the second straight game with 14 points. Henry Williams contributed 14 points while Pete Dunbar put up ten points and also pulled down a game high eight boards.
The Bobcats will look to regroup as they head to Coker College
Saturday for a 4:00pm start.
