The Lees-McRae College Bobcats traveled to Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference foe Anderson University Monday evening, putting together a decisive 17-4 run late in the second half to pull out a 74-66 victory, ending an eleven game losing skid. The Bobcats improved to 4-13, (3-8 CVAC).
The first half was a see saw affair, with home side Trojans taking a 32-31 lead into halftime. The Bobcats managed to take control in the second half from the opening inbounds play, holding Anderson scoreless for the first five minutes to establish a 40-32 lead.
Anderson got to within two - 44-42 - with 9:24 remaining, before the Bobcats ignited their game clinching run to lead 61-46 with just over four minutes to play. Stephen Haymer made six free throws and Aaron Dugger made a field goal and a 3-point basket during the run. Anderson, who fell to 2-16, (2-10 CVAC), got no closer than six points the rest of the way.
The Bobcats placed four players in double figures. Blake Carr, (pictured top left), led the way with 18 points. Carr was 4-for-5 from behind the arc. He was followed by Haymer with 17, Dugger with 15, and Henry Williams with 10.
Anderson's leading scorer was Levi Ashworth with 16. J.R. Howell added 15, and John LeSueur chipped in 13 for the Trojans.
No Lees-McRae player had more than five rebounds, however as a team the Bobcats managed 33 boards to Anderson's 25.
The Bobcats improved their free throw shooting, which had been their Achilles heel the past couple of games, going 30-for-39 from the charity stripe while the Trojans made just 14 of 13.
