North Greenville University shot 63.3% to race out to a 19-point
halftime lead over visiting Lees-McRae College Monday evening in
non-conference men's basketball action. The Crusaders survived a
second-half rally by the Bobcats to hold on for the 82-71 victory
and improve to 11-10 on the season. The Bobcats see their record
fall to 4-15.
North Greenville was sparked in the first half by Jordan
Richmond's 17 points and Amonzo Gantt's ten rebounds. The Crusaders
headed into halftime with a comfortable 47-28 lead.
Lees-McRae slowly chipped away at the Crusaders' lead,
eventually cutting to deficit to five points at the 4:30 mark. The
Bobcats were spurred by Aaron Dugger's five second-half 3-point
baskets. However, North Greenville hit seven free throws down the
stretch, and played tough defense to hold off the surging Bobcats
for the win.
Richmond led NGU with 20 points and six rebounds. Gantt scored
12 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Austin Randel
chipped in 14 points, while Josh Burgess added 13 points and six
Dugger, (pictured top left), led the Bobcats with a game high 21
points. Stephen Haymer scored 13 points for the Bobcats, while
Henry Williams and Darius Roper added 12 and 11 points
The Bobcats will return to action Thursday evening when
Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference foe Belmont Abbey visits
Williams Gymnasium. Tip off is slated for 7:30pm.
