Men's Basketball Announces Class of 2011, Incoming Transfer

Lees-McRae College Head Men's basketball coach Scott Polsgrove recently announced an eleven member recruiting class that will join the Bobcats program this fall. Five states are represented within the ten member freshman Class of 2011, while junior transfer Modestas Riauka originally hails from Lithuania.

"I am really excited about the quality of young men and basketball players we have coming into the program," commented Polsgrove, (pictured top left). "Each one of these recruits has the potential to have a positive impact on our 07-08 team."

A trio of combo guards will join the Bobcats this fall, as ReShon Benjamin, (Valdosta, GA), Nick DeSchepper, (Fishers, IN), and Ian Harris, (Greensboro, NC) begin their collegiate careers as true freshman. DeSchepper claimed Honorable Mention All Hoosier Crossroads Conference accolades as a sophomore and junior while earning First Team honors along with All Hamilton County as a senior.

Four forwards will look to get into the mix, adding size and depth to the Bobcats frontcourt; the shortest of the four stands at 6'3". Raysean Hairston, (Elizabethtown, NC), DJ Scott, (Pfafftown, NC), Aaron Willey, (Kingsport, TN) and Sam Youse, (Winston-Salem, NC), will look to push returning forwards Sam Darity and Stephen Haymer as they compete for time up front this season. Willey earned Big 9 All Conference honors three times during his high school career, claiming Honorable Mention as a sophomore, Third Team accolades as a junior and First Team honors as a senior. Scott was also named an All Conference performer in high school claiming All Metro 4A honors.

A pair of point guards and a pair of post players round out the second year Head Coach's first recruiting class. Jesse Hoots, (Yadkinville, NC), and Aaron Woodacre, (Johnson City, TN), join the Bobcats program after successful high school careers and should push one another over the next four years. Hoots picked up All Mountain Valley and All Northwest District honors while averaging over twenty points per game during his senior year. Woodacre also averaged over twenty points per game on his way to being named both the Watauga Valley Conference Player of the Year and the Northeast Tennessee Player of the Year. Woodacre also picked up All State and Region 1A MVP honors to close out his high school career. Zach Rix, (Leesburg, FL), who finished his prep career as The Villages High School all time leader in rebounds and blocked shots, will compete with Southern New Hampshire University transfer Riauka and rising sophomore Josh Kurtz for time at the post this season.

"While being a very young team I see great potential for us to improve. I am looking forward to coaching this team and seeing what we can accomplish," said Polsgrove.

Polsgrove and Assistant Coach Steve Drabyn return for their second season on the Bobcats bench. Just five games into his tenure in Banner Elk, Polsgrove achieved an upset victory over a nationally ranked opponent. On November 27, 2006 Polsgrove guided the Bobcats to an 86-77 home win over #19 Mount Olive College. The Bobcats finished their season with a heartbreaking 73-72 loss in the final seconds of CVAC First Round Tournament action.

The Bobcats return five letterwinners, (two seniors, three sophomores), from last year's team that finished 6-22, (5-15 CVAC). Lees-McRae College is a member of the former Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference, now known as Conference Carolinas.
