BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats basketball team hosted Lincoln Memorial University in non-conference action Tuesday night at Williams Gymnasium, falling 85-64 to the visiting Railsplitters. The Bobcats fall to 0-4 on the season while LMU wins their second straight to move to 2-3.
For the majority of the first half, the teams felt one another out, trading baskets and the lead on eight occasions. With the score tied at 25 and just over seven minutes to play, the Railsplitters strung together a 12-5 run to pull away and coast into halftime with a 37-30 lead.
The visitors came out strong in the second half, continuing the momentum built in the final five minutes of the first to quickly establish a double digit lead just over a minute in. The Bobcats would attempt to claw their way back, however six points was as close as the home side would get as the Railsplitters moved one game below .500 after starting the year 0-3, cruising to the road win.
Terry Delaney led the Railsplitters with a game high 25 points, while Ryan Whitaker and Beau Brown added 17 and 13 respectively.
The Bobcats, who started four freshmen, were led by Jesse Hoots (Yadkinville, NC) who picked up a season and career high 14 points in his fourth collegiate contest. Classmate Nick DeSchepper (Fishers, IN) and junior Modestas Riauka (Kaunas, Lithuania) each chipped in ten points for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will resume Conference Carolinas action this week, heading to Anderson University Thursday, then returning home to host Coker College Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium.
