Banner Elk, N.C.--Point guard Anthony Johnson (5"8) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball with the Lees-McRae team for the upcoming season. The native of Duncan, S.C. will join the team in August in preseason conditioning as his begins his first term at the college.
Johnson, who ran the point for Byrnes High School, averaged 10.2 ppg and shot 35.5% from the three point line and 74.3% from the charity stripe. He also had 73 assists in his last season with the Rebels. As captain of the squad his senior year, Johnson not only led his team on the floor but set an example off the court by excelling in the classroom.
Johnson was named to the All Region II AAAA team in 2007. In 2008 he was chosen as a member of the Spartanburg County All Star Team and was selected to the All Tournament Team for Battle of the Borders as well.
"We expect Anthony, with his quickness and perimeter shooting skills combined with his intelligence, to not only compete for playing time at the point guard position but also to be a great asset to the team," commented Coach Scott Polsgrove on his newest commitment.
