HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's basketball team was outscored 12-4 in the overtime period to give them an 80-72 loss to the Coker College Cobras Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action.
The Bobcats held the lead the entire first half and had a 14 point, 36-22, lead with just over five minutes left in the half when Jesse Hoots knocked down a field goal.
The Cobras then went on a 9-1 run to close out the half and cut the lead to 37-31.
In the second half, the Bobcats pushed the lead to ten, 47-37, with 14:48 remaining in the half.
The Bobcats maintained the lead until Stevie Evans hit two free throws with 16 ticks left on the clock to tie the game and send it into overtime.
In final five minutes of regulation Evans had eight points, a steal and a blocked shot for the Cobras.
Coker opened the overtime period with a 5-0 run on two made fields goals and a free throw by Mason Ambler.
The Bobcats cut the lead to three, 73-30 on two Stephen Haymer free throws, but the Cobras extended to six on a JC Hafner three pointer.
Two Josh Postone free throws sealed the final score of 80-72.
The Bobcats were 47 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the three point arc, while Coker was a sizzling 52 percent from the floor but 33 percent from behind the three point line.
The Bobcats saw five members of their squad in double figures in the effort. Sam Youse led the Bobcats with 17 points and four rebounds. Jesse Hoots added ten points. Aaron Woodacre, Haymer and Kyle Boardman had ten points apiece.
Stevie Evans led all scorers and the Cobras with 26 points, and Ambler added 24 points and eight rebounds.
The Bobcats host Queens Monday, January 26th at 7:30 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium in their next game.
