GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Two members of the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team's incoming recruiting class took the court alongside some of the top young players in North Carolina on Monday night, appearing in the North Carolina Coaches' Association East-West All-Star Game at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Donte Falls (Shelby, N.C.) and Josh Gaither (Statesville, N.C.) both suited up for the West team, each patrolling the hardwood for at least 20 minutes alongside mostly NCAA Division I commitments and top prep school players.
"This was exciting for my staff to go watch Donte and Josh play," said head coach Steve Hardin. "Having signed two players out of 20 that were selected just shows how many hours we have put into recruiting for this coming year. Both Donte and Josh earned the right to play in this prestigious all-star game, which has been played since 1949 and I was proud of their effort. Now it is time to get to work with this 2013-2014 basketball team!"
Falls saw the floor for 21 minutes, scoring two points, pulling down four rebounds, and posting a team-high two blocks. Gaither logged 20 minutes in the contest, recording four points, including a tough three-pointer, while also tallying one steal and one rebound.
Of the 20 players selected to play in the contest, only four have committed to attend an NCAA Division II school. Aside from Falls and Gaither, Logan Evans and Jared Hendryx have committed to former Conference Carolinas school Queens University of Charlotte.
Lees-McRae opens the 2013-2014 season on Saturday, November 2 with an exhibition against the University of North Carolina Greensboro at 7 p.m. at UNCG's Fleming Gymnasium. The Bobcats will take the court in Williams Gymnasium for the first time this season on Friday, November 22 when they host Francis Marion University at 7 p.m.
