NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Sophomore Lepreece Lynch and senior Cameron Redd combined for 38 points and the Lees-McRae men's basketball team scored 27 points off of turnovers while earning their first win with a 93-77 victory against Allen University Friday evening in Newberry, S.C.
The Bobcats (1-4) have averaged 100.5 points in their last two contests while shooting 71.6% on the evening. The Yellow Jackets (1-6) enjoyed a 19-point performance from Emaray Johnson.
Lynch (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Redd (Garner, N.C.) both set season-highs in points with 24 and 14, respectively.
The contest was tight in the beginning, but threes from Kendall Isler (Winder, Ga.) and Josh Gaither (Statesville, N.C.) put coach Steve Hardin's squad up 18-10 with 12:39 remaining in the first half.
AU stormed back to cut the deficit to one, 18-17 after a Seth Fitzgerald bucket.
LMC retorted with a three from Lynch to give LMC a sizable 31-20 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets used strong play from Fitzgerald to cut the lead to four, 39-35.
Bobcats' Darius Malbon delivered with a three-point play on a layup plus one in the waning moments of the first half.
Lynch stormed out of the gate in the second half with a pair of triples in a span of 1:14.
AU rallied and tied the contest at 53 following a bucket from Derrick McCord.
LMC pulled away after Malbon and Redd sparked a 9-2 run.
Senior Austin Anderson (Anderson, S.C.) delivered the knockout blow with a deep three, giving the Bobcats an 81-67 lead.
LMC iced the contest with quality free-throw shooting to ice the game.
Senior Jonathan Honore (Baton Rouge, La.) contributed a team-high five assists while seven players had seven points or more.
LMC has a quick turnaround and battles Newberry Saturday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. in Newberry, S.C.
