FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Emmanuel (GA) College spoiled the Lees-McRae College men's basketball team's quest for its fifth straight win Tuesday night as the Lions knocked off the Bobcats, 91-78. The loss drops LMC to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
The Bobcats struggled to slow down the Lions in the opening 20 minutes. In the first half, Emmanuel shot nearly 60 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range. Lees-McRae, which shot 41.9 percent in the first, turned to free throw shooting to remain within striking distance. LMC went 11-for-15 from the line to help make the deficit just seven points (51-44) at the break.
Lees-McRae quickly ate away at the Lions' lead as the score was tied at 51-51 before two minutes came off the clock in the second half. The two teams traded leads in the following handful of minutes until Emmanuel went on a run to dart back out ahead of the Bobcats for good as it won the game, 91-78.
Like most nights, the Bobcats had a varied offense with several different players accounting for the scoring. Senior Lepreece Lynch led the way with 15 points on top of team-highs in rebounds (9) and steals (3). Reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week Donte Falls added 12 points, while guards Quay Kimble and Kamil Williams added 12 and 11 points, respectively, out of the backcourt.
LMC will return to Williams Gymnasium Friday when it hosts league-leading Mount Olive. Friday's game is the team's 'Gold Out' so fans are encouraged to wear gold, and there will also be gold t-shirts given to the first 100 fans in attendance. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
