BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College's Head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Hardin announced Monday that Mark Polsgrove has been promoted to the title of Associate Head Coach. Polsgrove will enter his second season as a part of the Bobcat coaching staff for the 2018-19 season.
"I am grateful and excited to elevate Coach Polsgrove to Associate Head Coach," said Hardin. "He grew up in Banner Elk and is extremely committed to Lees-McRae College and the program. Mark has earned this new title with his work ethic and knowledge of everything it takes to run a program. Knowing Mark since he was a youngster I knew he was destined to be in the coaching profession. We grew up the same and think the same."
Polsgrove helped the Bobcats reach historic heights in 2017-18 as the team set new program records in wins (23), points scored (2,863), scoring average (89.5), field goals made (932), three-pointers made (342), three-point field goal percentage (.401), free throws made (657), free throws attempted (896), assists (437) and blocked shots (118). All these successes translated to three All-Conference Carolinas players, two league player of the week honorees, Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, the team's first ever conference tournament championship and first NCAA Tournament berth.
After the successes the Bobcats had in 2017-18, Polsgrove was named to the Under Armour 30-Under-30 list by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in early May. The list is geared towards recognizing a group of up-and-coming young coaches in men's college basketball.
"Mark will become a head coach in the future and I am blessed to have him a part of the DunkMountain family," Hardin said in closing. "Coach Polsgrove along with Coach Motley provide are key pieces in our program's future."
