TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team rolled to a 100-66 victory on the road at North Greenville Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action. The victory, which is the team's fourth straight, improves Lees-McRae's record on the season to 9-13 overall and 6-7 in league play.
Lees-McRae and North Greenville were within a few possessions of each other for the bulk of the first half. The Bobcats did go on a 12-2 run to for a double-figure lead around the midway point of the half. NGU, however, would come back to cut the Bobcat lead to six before the latter would go on another run to close out the half. Thanks to these pair of runs, Lees-McRae took a 47-34 lead into the halftime break.
Facing a double-digit deficit definitely put pressure on North Greenville in the second half. Lees-McRae forced NGU into 15 turnovers over the final 20 minutes to not only sustain its lead but also extend it. A mixture of defense, six three-pointers and 13 made free throws in the second half powered the Bobcats to a convincing 34-point victory over North Greenville, 100-66.
Nearly every Bobcat had a part in the team's first 100-point effort of the 2018-19 season Saturday. Wes Morgan paced Lees-McRae in scoring with 14 points on the afternoon. To go along with Morgan, the trio of Andrew Gardner, Jerick Haynes and Quay Kimble each finished with 12 points to power the Bobcat offense.
Lees-McRae will look to keep things going Saturday when it plays host to Johnson University at Williams Gymnasium. The game, which will serve as the team's senior day, between the Bobcats and Royals is set for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
