BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's basketball team dropped a 97-78 decision to Barton College Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium. The loss moves Lees-McRae's record to 10-16 overall and 6-10 within Conference Carolinas play.

Barton was definitely clicking offensively in the first 20 minutes of play. As a team, the Bulldogs shot 59.4 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. Lees-McRae, meanwhile, snagged 10 offensive rebounds in the first half. Even with getting those second chance opportunities, Barton still held a 49-31 advantage on the Bobcats heading into the halftime break.

The Bobcats came back from the break turned to its free throw shooting in the second half to try and make a comeback. Lees-McRae got to the free throw line a total of 21 times in the second half compared to just four trips in the first. Additionally, the Bobcats converted on 18 of those 21 tries. Furthermore, the Bobcats also upped their field goal percentage to 50 percent on 26 shots in the final frame. With those two factors working together, Lees-McRae was able to cut the Barton lead down to 12 with a little over four minutes to go. Unfortunately, that was where the comeback stalled out and the Bulldogs got their lead back out to 19 before the final whistle sounded.

Individually, the Bobcats were led by guard Jerick Haynes Saturday. Haynes finished with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and a 6-of-7 outing from the free throw line. Quay Kimble (13 points) and Anthony Hicks (12 points) also finished in double figures for Lees-McRae.

The Bobcats will look to get back on track next Wednesday when they play host to Erskine College in their final home game of the regular season. Wednesday's game will be Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, Girls & Women in Sport Day and a White Out where t-shirts will be given away. Tip-off for Wednesday's game is set for 7:30 p.m.
