Lees-McRae College Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Mat Edmunds will play for Team Wales at the 2006 World Field Lacrosse Championships held in London, Ontario July 13-22.
A 2002 graduate of Lees-McRae, and an experienced international player, the 2006 World Championships will be Edmunds' first foray into lacrosse's biggest international tournament.
Team Wales will play in the Red Division with other developing nations Scotland, Ireland, Hong Kong and Italy. After a round robin, the Red Division champion will face one of the elite Blue Division teams in one quarterfinal for the right to move on to the medal round. The Blue Division consists of the favored United States; host Canada, Australia, Iroquois Nationals, Japan and England.
Edmunds was a four-time All-Deep South player during his career at Lees-McRae. Edmunds' 39 assists places him second all time at Lees-McRae while his 60 goals places him second. His 99 total points also put Edmunds in third place on the all time scoring charts.
The Bobcats will return 15 letter winners from last year's team. Twenty-nine student-athletes make up the Lees-McRae Lacrosse Class of 2010.
