Men's Lacrosse Signs Two During Early Signing Period
Lees-McRae College Men's Lacrosse Coach Mat Edmunds '02 is proud to announce the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the NCAA's early signing period. Zach Cecil and Josh Lucero will enroll at Lees-McRae in the fall of 2007 and make their Bobcat debut's in the 2008 season.
Cecil makes his way to Lees-McRae via Calvert High School. The Maryland native was a four sport athlete in high school excelling in cross country, indoor track, swimming and lacrosse. Cecil was named the Gatorade National Rookie of the Year in cross country, named to the All Conference team as well as earning MVP honors in both cross country and swimming. Cecil is a member of the National Honor Society and was a member of the Southern Maryland Selects lacrosse team.
"Zach has got excellent skills and will contribute to our program on the field and in the classroom," commented Edmunds. "He is a naturally gifted athlete, and should fit well within our system."
Lucero is the first player from the state of California to sign with the Bobcats. The Encinitas native is a four year letter winner with La Costa Canyon, earning Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2004. La Costa Canyon lost in the CIF-San Diego Section Championship during Lucero's freshman year, before winning back to back Championships in 2005 and 2006. Lucero also lettered in football for three years.
"Josh has the skills to compete for time in our midfield right away," commented Assistant Coach Jason Levesque. "He's got great hands, is in tremendous shape, and has excellent field vision."
The Bobcats open the 2007 season on the road at Wingate University February 24th.
