The Lees-McRae Bobcats lacrosse team traveled to Charlotte Tuesday evening to take on Queen's University in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Tournament first round action, falling 16-5 to the Royals. The Bobcats remain winless with an 0-14 record while the Royals even their record to 7-7 and advance to play #1 seed St. Andrew's Presbyterian College in semi final action.
The Royals controlled the opening face off and much of the play in the opening quarter. Alex Tack put the home side on the board with an unassisted marker at 9:26. The Royals scored two quick goals at 8:32 and 8:12, but the Bobcats would battle back. With a minute and a half remaining, Jason Schafhauser, (pictured top left), would score his team leading 18th of the year, as the Royals held the 3-1 advantage after one.
David Taylor scored 0:24 seconds into the second, getting a 4-0 quarter started for the Royals. The Bobcats would again bear down on defense and hold Queens scoreless for just under ten minutes. Tack and Cory Thomas would score at 4:50 and 4:19 respectively, giving the home side the comfortable 7-1 lead at the half.
The Royals would again get on the board early in the third, this time 0:26 seconds in, as Stephen LeBlanc extended the Royals lead to 8-1. Kyle Ficken responded just under two minutes later, however once again a pair of quick goals would take the wind out of the Bobcats sails. Josh Bryce would bury two goals 0:28 seconds apart with just under ten minutes remaining to give Queens a stranglehold on the game, 10-2.
Tyler Stieber, Chandler Kirven and Matt Markey would round out the scoring for the Bobcats.
Lees-McRae will play one more game this season, a make up game
against Catawba that was cancelled due to inclement weather. The
Bobcats will travel to Catawba to take on the Indians Friday April
