Five Goal Fourth Quarter is Not Enough as Crusaders Ease Past Bobcats, 15-6
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Belmont Abbey Crusaders defeated the Lees-McRae College Bobcats 15-6 in Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex.
The Abbey improves to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while Lees-McRae falls to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Belmont Abbey outshot Lees-McRae 32-29 and held a 52-40 advantage in ground balls.
Lees-McRae received two goals each from Brett Yusiewicz and Brandon Marks, while Derin Vacca and Ryan LeBlanc both had one. Landon Guntman, Vacca and Yusiewicz all had one assist. Neil Sleight, Joe Salvino, Edward Dolan and Marks collected three groundballs apiece to lead the team. Bryan Thompson caused a game high four turnovers.
The Abbey controlled the entire game as it led 8-0 at the half, scoring four goals in each of the first two periods. The Abbey added four more goals in the third and three more in the fourth, while the Bobcats notched one goal in the third period and five goals in the fourth periond.
Miles Elliott scored four goals and Michael Brown had two goals and five assists for Belmont Abbey. Jedd Gardner added three, while Brown, Austin Whitesell and Dave DiLuigi all had a pair. Brian Watson and Tom Ottman had one each. Brown posted five assists, while Whitesell had four. Douglas Lipka and Brendan Wood both had one. Matt Malloy led the way with six ground balls, while Keas and DiLuigi both had four.
The Bobcats will host Limestone College Wednesday, April 8th at 6 p.m. for their next game.
