BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Four senior student-athletes have been tabbed team captains for the 2010 Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team by a vote of their teammates, Head Coach Mat Edmunds announced today.
Midfielder Matt Markey (Burlington, N.C.), defenders Eddy Dolan (Mellor, England) and goalkeeper Andy Nesdill (Phoenix, Az.) will serve as captains for the upcoming season.
"These three men bring a great deal of leadership to our team on and off the field, and I applaud our team for this year's selections," Edmunds said. "Each brings unique and different leadership skills which will complement each other, and I believe they will be very effective leaders this season for our team as they work together to make our team better."
Markey has been a member of Lees-McRae's midfield unit since coming to the school as a freshman in 2006. He has started all games for the past two years and has been one of the team's top scorers.
Dolan is a member of Lees-McRae's defense. He played all last year as a long stick midfielder with 1 goal and 31 ground balls but now compliments the Bobcats base defensive unit with his speed and athleticism. Dolan was also a member of the England National Team that competed at the U19 world championships two years ago in Canada.
Nesdill has just been mentioned by insidelacrosse.com as a player to watch in the Conference Carolinas and was also cited as a pre-season all conference player. As a sophomore Nesdill was a two time player of the week award winner as well as being placed on the second team all conference list at the end of the year. He played 622 minutes and have a save percentage of 0.539. This is his second year of serving as captain.
Lees-McRae opens the 2010 season on February 13 when it travels to Athens, Tn., for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Tennessee Wesleyan.
