HIGH POINT, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team is picked to finish sixth in the race for the 2012 Conference Carolinas regular season championship, announced league officials Friday.
Lees-McRae begins a new era under first-year head coach Andy Nesdill, who concluded a tremendous three-year career between the pipes for the Bobcats last spring. Nesdill takes the reins of a program which made great strides last season, enduring a demanding schedule while providing a difficult test for several of the nation's premier teams.
Defending champion Limestone College tops the poll with 25 points and five first-place votes, followed by Pfeiffer University's 20 points and one first-place vote. Queens University of Charlotte is third with 16 points, followed by Belmont Abbey College (15), Coker College (8), and Lees-McRae (6).
The Bobcats return 11 letter-winners from last year's squad, including seniors Josh Shingleton (Temecula, Calif.), Brett Yusiewicz (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Danny Ives (Cheadle, Cheshire, England), Derin Vacca (Wake Forest, N.C.), Bryan Bosley (Hanover, Pa.), and Shaun Strodel (Duluth, Ga.). Lees-McRae opens its 2012 season on Saturday, February 11 when the Bobcats travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on Catawba College at 2 p.m.
