Judge Nets Hat Trick; Opening Quarter Looms Large in Loss at Tusculum, 23-6
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior Kyle Judge netted a hat trick while freshman Louis Parks notched a pair of goals, but the Lees-McRae men's lacrosse team suffered a 23-6 loss at Tusculum in nonconference action Wednesday evening in Greeneville, Tenn.
The Pioneers (2-0) exploded for 10 goals in the opening quarter while four players had at least three goals. The Bobcats (0-2) forced 23 turnovers while Dustin Barrow (Columbia, S.C.) won eight faceoffs.
TC wasted no time by notching its first goal 59 seconds into the game thanks to a Steven Raimondi goal.
LMC's Parks (Mays Landing, N.J.) responded quickly with a goal to tie it, 31 seconds later.
The Pioneers' Ben Boyd tallied three goals while TC finished the quarter on a 9-0 run.
TC racked up 18 shots while holding the Bobcats to four in the opening period.
Four different Pioneers netted a goal in the second period, including one from Boyd and Raimondi, to hold a 14-1 lead at half.
Judge (Hampstead, Md.) sliced through the Pioneer defense to net his first of three at the 13:10 mark in the third quarter.
The Bobcats impressed in the third by winning the ground ball battle, 10-7, and forcing seven turnovers.
Consecutive goals from TC's David Fernandes put the Pioneers up, 16-2, but LMC's Parks and Dalton Lamb (Clemmons, N.C.) bested Eddie Schoenig for a goal each in the fourth.
Judge capped off the Bobcat scoring with a goal at the 7:08 and 3:04 mark, respectively in the final 15 minutes.
Boyd led both squads with five goals while Fernandes, Raimondi and Kellen Asmundson recorded three goals apiece.
