BOONE, N.C. – Chowan University scored six of the first seven goals Saturday afternoon at Watauga High School on its way to a 16-9 victory over the Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team in Conference Carolinas action. The Bobcats move to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play with the Saturday's defeat.
Despite the loss the Bobcats did have some bright spots on Saturday against the Hawks. LMC posted a season-high 42 shots on the afternoon. The Bobcats, who outscored Chowan in the fourth quarter 6-4, also set new season-best marks in faceoff wins (12) and successful clears (19).
Individually, the Bobcats saw three different players score multiple points. Junior Alec Molander led the way with three goals and an assist for a team-high four points. Fellow attackman Tanner Jones notched his third hat trick of his senior season with three goals against the Hawks. Rounding out the offensive leads for LMC was freshman Craig Barr with a pair of goals. Barr, who has scored a point in four of the five games in 2018, moves into third place on the team with eight goals this spring.
Net minder Cameron Castle stopped 11 Chowan shots in 27 chances in the contest. It marks the fourth straight game that Castle has stopped 10 or more shots. Even with that effort, Castle's record moves to 1-4 with the loss.
Lees-McRae will be back in action next Saturday when it hosts Emmanuel (GA) College at Tate Field. The game, which will also be the team's senior day, is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m.
