BOONE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's lacrosse team dropped its Conference Carolinas opener Sunday afternoon at Watauga High School to No. 17 Mount Olive by a score of 19-6. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record on the season to 2-3.
After Mount Olive scored the game's first goal 43 seconds into the opening quarter, the Bobcats netted the next two goals to gain the advantage over the nationally-ranked Trojans, 2-1. Mount Olive, however, bounced back to score six times over the final 11 minutes of the frame to regain the lead, 7-2. Over the final 45 minutes of the contest, Mount Olive continued to build its lead as it outscored the Bobcats in every quarter on its way to a 19-6 win.
Individually, Lees-McRae had a trio of players tally multi-point games Sunday. Jonathan Barry led all Bobcat scorers with three points (1g, 2a), while Ethan Knight and Craig Barr both netted a pair of goals in the contest.
In goal for the Bobcats senior Cameron Castle made 13 saves in 32 opportunities by UMO. The loss pushes Castle's record on the season to 2-3.
The Bobcats will face another tough test in their next game, which will be Tuesday night at nationally-ranked Limestone. First face-off between the Bobcats and Saints is set for 7 p.m.
