Bobcats add British Shot Stopper

Tom Courtney (Newcastle, England) committed to Lees-McRae College and signed the National Letter of Intent to participate for the Lees-McRae College Men's Soccer program.

Tom a graduate of Heaton Manor Comprehensive will be joining the Bobcats in 2006. Tom is also a graduate of North Tyneside College in England and his team made it to the last 16 of the National cup. Tom was also named player of the tournament in the Blackpool cup.
Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach Calvin Dixon said "I am very excited to work with Tom in the Fall, he is a big guy and has a commanding presence in the box. He is also very good at communicating with his defense and that is something a goalkeeper needs to do"om is undecided in his Major while at Lees-McRae College, and is the son of Steve and Anette Courtney
The Bobcat Men's Soccer program is coming off of a solid 2005 season. The Bobcats beat three top teams in the Nation including UNC Pembroke, Lander and Clayton State. Coach Whalley indicated "my goal is to get the Bobcats back to winning the conference championships as in 2002 & 2003 seasons and to make the program in to a Powerhouse in the Southeast Region.
Goalkeeping is a key ingredient in for program reaching our goals and Tom will push the other two keepers for that starting spot".
Lees-McRae is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Banner Elk, NC. Lees-McRae is affiliated with the NCAA Division II and the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference
