The Lees-McRae College Bobcats soccer team defeated North Georgia 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the Laker Shootout, hosted by Clayton State. The win gave the Bobcats a 2-0 record, and the Laker Shootout title.
James Worsnop got the Bobcats on the board early with a header that beat North Georgia keeper Brandon Kirksey in the ninth minute. Michael Lind, earning his first start of the year, drew the assist. Berin Boracic gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead with a free kick from 30 yards that found the back of the net in the 26th minute. Four minutes later, Boracic would strike again after being sent in on a breakaway by Nathan Wall. The Bobcats would take their 3-0 lead into halftime.
North Georgia would get one back in the 53rd minute, however the Bobcats would reestablish the three goal lead 32 seconds later when Alex Turnello stole the ball from a North Georgia defender at the right side of the box and beat Kirksey to put the Bobcats up 4-1.
The two wins in two days gave the Bobcats the Laker Shootout title. Worsnop and Turnello scored their first collegiate goals in the North Georgia win, while Boracic's pair gives him four goals in four games. Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference rival Queens University went 1-1, beating North Georgia before falling to Clayton State in overtime.
