BANNER ELK, NC--After a pair of wins last week, the Lees-McRae Bobcats soccer team maintained its position as the second ranked team in NCAA Division II according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll. The Bobcats currently lead Conference Carolinas with a 7-1 record, and are 6-0-1 in non-conference play for an overall record of 13-1-1.
"Again, the recognition is great for everyone involved, the players, coaches, alumni, administration. But these accolades are not what we set out to do this season," commented Head Coach Chris Whalley. "We still have much to accomplish in the next month and will continue to remain focused on our team goals."
Last week the Bobcats won two games away from Tate Field, defeating #13 Lander University while disposing of Conference Carolinas rival Pfeiffer University 3-2 on their home field. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Bobcats look to clinch their first regular season Conference Championships since 2001 with a road game at Mount Olive Saturday before returning home to face Belmont Abbey College Wednesday, October 24th. The Bobcats wrap up the season with a non-conference match up against Chowan College next weekend.
