Bobcats Add Offense

BANNER ELK, N.C.--The Lees-McRae College men's soccer coach has announced that Brandon Locklear has signed the National Letter of Intent to participate in the Lees-McRae College men's soccer program. The Sunset Beach, N.C. native will enroll at Lees-McRae this August and join the Bobcats for preseason training.

"I am looking forward to working with Brandon in the fall, he is an exciting, dynamic forward that we think could make an impact from the start," stated Coach Chris Whalley.

A graduate of West Brunswick High School, Locklear has also spent time with the Cape Fear Breakers Club Team, winning All Region and All State accolades in both high school and at the ODP Regional level as well as being named as the Brunswick County Player of the Year.

"I believe that Brandon could push the strikers for a starting spot next year, commented Assistant Coach Calvin Dixon '05. "He has great speed and is a good finisher; he will certainly add depth to the squad."

Brandon is undecided in his major while attending Lees-McRae College. He is the son of Denise and Craig Locklear.

The Bobcats are coming off of a record-setting 2007 season, winning both the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships while also winning the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship before falling in the NCAA Division II National Championships Elite Eight. The Bobcats were ranked as the seventh team in the country in the NSCAA/adidas final National Poll and finished the season as the highest scoring team in the country averaging 3.33 goals per game.

Previously the Bobcats won the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Championship in 1998, 2002 and 2003. Current assistant coaches Nick Young '02 and Calvin Dixon '05 each earned two championships during their time in green and gold.
