Bobcats End Season Ranked 13th in the Nation
BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's soccer team finished the 2008 season ranked 13th in the nation according to the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings.
The Bobcats, who were 17-3-3 overall and 9-0-1 in conference,
were back-to-back Conference Carolinas regular season and
tournament champions. The team entered the NCAA Tournament
Regionals as the second seed in the Southeast Region. The Bobcats
reached the Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive season.
In the round of 32 of the tournament, the Bobcats defeated conference opponent Limestone College, 2-1, but fell to host Tusculum College, 2-0, in the Sweet Sixteen.
"Playing in November was a goal of ours from the start of the season," head coach Chris Whalley said. "It is an honor to be ranked 13th at the end of the season, and I am proud of the boys for their efforts this season. Going to the NCAA Tournament and making the Sweet Sixteen two years in a row is a huge accomplishment and a benchmark for the success of this program."
