Former All-American Finds New Home in MLS
SECAUCUS, N.J.-Former Lees-McRae two-time All-American, Khano Smith, has been traded from the Major League Soccer expansion team, Seattle Sounders FC, to the New York Red Bulls.
Smith, who earned All-American Honors in 2001 and 2002 for
Lees-McRae, spent his first four season in the MLS with the New
England Revolution. He scored his first goal in 2005 against
Kansas City. His 2006 season was shortened by a knee injury, but
in 2007 he bounced back to have the best year of his career
starting in 26 games and appearing in 29 games. During that season
he set career highs for appearances, starts, minutes, assists,
shots, shots on goal and fouls suffered.
In 2008 he appeared in 23 games, playing 1,515 minutes, scoring two goals and tallying three assists.
In his career he has played in 85 MLS games for a total of 4,995 minutes, starting 54 of those. He has scored eight goals and had 11 assists.
At the end of the 2008 season he was selected by new expansion team, Seattle FC, but was traded on February 12th back to the east coast to become a New York Red Bull. The Red Bulls acquired him to add depth and athleticism to the left side of their midfield
