HAMILTON, BERMUDA --- Lees-McRae College sophomore Rieko Trott (Bermuda) is currently competing with the Bermuda Under-20 Men's National Team in the FIFA/CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Guadeloupe, having been selected to the squad earlier this month.
The 5-11, 130-pound midfielder has appeared in 14 matches over his two-year career with the Bobcats, tallying one goal and two points for LMC. Trott is undoubtedly fulfilling nearly every soccer players' dream, being granted the opportunity to represent his country on the international stage.
Trott and his fellow Bermudan representatives are slated to play two matches in the first round of group play, having played to a 1-1 draw with host country Guadeloupe on Wednesday. The squad is also scheduled to face Antigua and Barbuda on Friday in the second of two matches before returning to their respective clubs and institutions next week.
In total, four groups will compete in the first round, with the winner of each group qualifying for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Guatemala April 3-17. Meanwhile, the group runners - up will advance to the second group phase, which will determine the Caribbean's fifth and final entry in the 12-team confederation final.
