KANSAS CITY, Kan. --- Senior Lee Squires (Sheffield, England) headlines a group of five players from the Lees-McRae College men's soccer team on the NSCAA/Performance Subaru NCAA Division II all-Southeast Region Team, earning first team honors for the third time in his career.
Squires is joined on the all-region team by second-team selection David Palmer (Gateshead, England), and third-team honorees Luke Duffy (Wakefield, England) and James Galvani (High Wycombe, England). The outstanding quartet paced the Bobcats to a terrific season this fall, as Lees-McRae completed the campaign with a 13-5-3 record, its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, fourth consecutive Conference Carolinas regular season title, and third conference tournament championship in the last four years.
A native of Sheffield, England, Squires put together another outstanding season for the Bobcats, leading the team and the conference with 14 goals and 35 points en route to his second career Conference Carolinas Player of the Year selection. The three-time All-American finished the campaign ranked fifth in the region in total goals and total points, while concluding his decorated career with the Bobcats with a trio of 10-goal campaigns, including a pair of years with at least 20 scores. He concludes his career with 67 goals, 15 assists, and 149 points to rank among the program's all-time leaders in each category.
Palmer posted perhaps his finest season with Lees-McRae, tying a career-high with 22 points while posting a new personal-best with nine goals to earn his second straight NSCAA all-region selection. The three-time all-conference honoree has tallied at least five goals and 15 points in each of his first three seasons, totaling 24 goals, 12 assists, and 60 points in 61 matches as a Bobcat. Palmer garnered NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II all-Southeast Region third team recognition for the first time last season.
Duffy was a tremendous part of the Bobcats' success over the past three seasons, providing veteran leadership to a backline that has allowed more than one goal on just 11 occasions over that span, a stretch that includes 24 shutouts. The 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America selection posted a personal highlight late in the campaign, scoring his first career goal against St. Andrews. Duffy is a three-time all-conference selection.
Galvani posted a fine freshman season for the Bobcats, scoring nine goals, dishing out six assists, and totaling 24 points in his rookie campaign. The 6-2, 160-pound forward was an integral part of Lees-McRae's success this season, tallying four match-winning goals to lead the team in that category. Galvani also garnered all-conference second team honors earlier this season.
Lees-McRae is expected to return 16 lettermen for their Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship squad, including all-Conference Carolinas First Team selections Luke Perry (Cheshire, England), Palmer, and Duffy. The Bobcats posted their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance this season, while capturing the program's fourth consecutive Conference Carolinas regular season title.
